This is a stunning log home constructed from much more than three hundred chestnut logs and is situated in the picturesque South Chagrin Reservation. The Cleveland Natural Science Club’s meeting hall, The Lodge, was constructed in 1938.
The Lodge has a Native American totem pole, two stone fireplaces, and stairs made of half-chestnut logs. A stretch of the Buckeye Trail and a hemlock forest with a view of Sulphur Springs gorge are close to the Lodge.
It was designed to accommodate teachers and students studying natural history. The new structure’s design fully reflected the club’s goals and the widening range of member interests.
The structure kept important elements of the club’s former headquarters, including a gallery, a collection of scientific publications, leisure grounds, and spaces for research or group gatherings, even if it was an advance in terms of space, resources, and layout. Its goal remained unchanged as well.
The Lodge offered teachers a location to discover and look into the natural environment so they could disseminate their scientific knowledge to the general population.

In addition to the Chagrin River’s natural splendor and the area’s extensive hardwood & evergreen forest, Whitesburg Park offers a singular opportunity to discover some of Chagrin Fall’s unique history.
The western side of the river is bordered by a network of rustic boardwalks and trails that wind across slopes of forested upland.
Visitors can observe the remains of the former Chase Bag Co. along the route. Its old mill body of water, as well as a huge metal conduit that was used to provide fresh water to the heat mill, were both parts of a paper mill that was once located down from the park.
Three distinct parks were combined to create this one in 2010. The town of Chagrin Falls owns and manages Whitesburg Park.
Although it is a tiny park, it has diverse habitats for observing birds and the passing of the seasons, including a swamp, a fast-flowing section of Chagrin River, a slow-flowing section with otters in it, a woodland, a field, and ephemeral pools there in spring.
Excellent for taking pictures, taking in the scenery, and strolling pets.
